You Don't Have Anyone To "Push" You!

There is hardly any way one can achieve
the millionaire status without having
someone to push you towards it.

This is simply because when we do things
on our own, we tend to relax a bit and stay
in our comfort zone, hence the need for a push.

Assuming you're a medical doctor, there
must have been a stage in life where someone
pushed you to trudge on. Maybe your parents
or something.

Let me tell you a story to prove to you how
important it is to have people around us to
push us.

Once upon a time, there lived a very rich
man. He was so rich that he could afford
anything he fancied. But the rich man had
only one child. A female child. A beautiful
one at that.

When the rich man's daughter grew up,
many suitors came along the way asking for
her hand in marriage. That was not a surprise
though. She was every young man's dream.
Beautiful, rich with the world at her feet.

Because of the number of suitors coming her
way, she became confused and spoilt for
choice. She decided to solicit the help of her
father. Her father agreed to help her.

The rich man sent out a message to all her
daughter's suitors informing them to gather at
his mansion on a particular date.

In the message, he said he would carry out a
test for all of them and that the winner of the
test will become his daughter's husband. Not
only that, he would give the lucky man the
sum of one million dollars.

On the appointed day, twelve able bodied
young men gathered. They were all eager to
emerge victorious so they could marry the rich
man's daughter and also pocket $1million.

Then the rich man announced what the test
was : all the "contestants" were to swim
across his swimming pool and that the first
person that comes out at the other end wins
the contest.

All the men agreed it was an easy test and
they all got prepared.

Then came the moment. The rich man asked
them to get set and dive into the swimming
pool at the count of three.

Just as he was about to count up to three,
two massive crocodiles sprang out from the
water. All the men were taken aback. They
retreated and slowly, they exchanged glances
of fear and depression.

Then the unexpected happened.

One of the young men jumped into the pool.
Everyone was shocked. He began to swim
desperately. One of the crododiles approached
him, he ducked.

He swam past the second and he frantically
reached the other end of the pool where he
was pulled up.

The rich man was glad. The girl was jumping
for joy. Everyone hailed his bravery.

"Congratulations my dear boy, you've just won
the hand of my daughter in marriage". The rich
man announced to the admiration of everyone.

The winner, still panting replied, " Sir, I'm no
longer interested in marrying your daughter".

The rich man was surprised, but he calmed
down and said, "you've been great today
and you've also won $1million and I'm going
to write your check right now."

The young man replied again, "Sir, I'm not
interested in your daughter, neither am I
interested in your money!"

The girl was dissapointed and the rich man
was getting impatient. He then asked the
young man, "if you don't want my daughter
and my money, what do you want?"

The young man said, "I want to know the
person that pushed me into the pool".

That means, without being pushed, the guy
wouldnt have won the hand of the princess
in marriage.

The lesson is: Surround Yourself With People
That Will Push You To Great Things.

Do you find yourself falling in line to bet on that elusive lotto number
that will be your ticket to a lifetime of riches? Do you plunge into
books and attend seminars looking for that secret shortcut to becoming a
millionaire? Do you rack up overtime just to build up your hoard of
wealth? See, here’s the thing. You don’t need to do all that.

In our training programs, people always come out as multimillionaires.
No, they don’t just come out feeling like a million bucks. They come out
knowing that they truly are multi-millionaires!

If you haven’t heard this already, financial planners will tell you that
the first step to achieving financial freedom is to determine your net
worth or starting point. When you were born, you had only your body,
mind and soul for assets, all of which were not capable of running
independently. The combined value of these same assets also totaled your
net worth. At that time, you were simply too young to contract debt. So
assets and net worth were equal. But what value do we assign to your
early assets? Remember that any value we assign just represents
financial worth and not your worth as a human being. If it were the
latter, then the answer would be priceless.

In practical terms, we could say that, at any point in time, your
financial worth is equal to the sum of your earnings throughout your
lifetime, discounted to the present time by the rate of inflation. So if
you were newly born and expected to live up to age 80, your financial
worth would be the (discounted) sum of your earnings from ages 1 to 80.
Let’s call this financial worth your human capital.

If you started earning employment income of P10,000 a month on 13 months
of pay a year at the age of 21, given certain assumptions on yearly pay
increases, your human capital at age 1 would amount to P5 million. By
age 48, your human capital would peak at P24 million, after which it
will begin a steady decline to P0 by age 75. What would support you up
to age 80 would be your built up savings, investments and earnings on
them. If you are a business person, you could assume that your earnings
would roughly equal those that we assumed for an employee.

So you see, you’re already a multi-millionaire. And since many would
fall into the same boat, so are they. Yet how is it that a great many
people still suffer financial stress? To be sure, there are many reasons
for this. It could partly be due to the unusually harsh environment that
a person landed in. It could also be because he was struck by one
financial tragedy after another. More often than not, however, it is not
in what we earn or what affects us from our surroundings but how much of
our income we keep and grow that determines our level of financial
stress.

As an experiment, put P10,000 in your wallet or purse on a Friday night.
You are not to touch your ATM, passbook (as some banks are open on
weekends) or credit cards. All you have to live on for the weekend is
your P10,000. If you are married with two kids, two maids, living in
your own home and is the type who is disciplined with money, you will
probably enter the following Monday with around half of your P10,000
intact. Any spending would have been for wet-market shopping, some
groceries, transportation, tithing and a little bit of entertainment.
But if you are the type who sees money in his wallet as a license to
spend, then you would probably end up with very little. You may have
even been stressed with shortages and have had to pull out your ATM,
passbook or credit cards to make ends meet.

MANILA, Philippines - It’s never too late to wisen up on how you handle your
money. Here, we round up the most common money mistakes that people commit
and found different ways on how you can avoid it.

It’s pretty common for people to commit the same mistakes when it comes to
personal finance. However, it’s also avoidable once you’ve gotten the right
mindset. Veering away from these mistakes little by little can have a huge
impact on your financial wellbeing, let’s help you recognize your usual
money mistakes and finally put an end to it.

*Shopping on impulse*

So many people are guilty of this bad habit causing them to rack up debts on
their credit card bill or not have enough money for their monthly needs.
That said, it just follows that people who often commit this money mistake
are most likely to not have anything saved up in their bank account as well.

With one’s finances in a mess, it’s high time for you to get used to the
brutal truth which is: shopping on impulse, no matter how good it makes you
feel, will leave you broke and miserable in the future.

While no one’s forbidding you to shop, always remember the old saying,
“don’t live beyond your means”. Have a monthly shopping budget and stick to
it, if you find yourself suddenly reaching for your credit card because you
don’t have enough money to pay for something, that’s the time when you take
a step back and seriously ask yourself if what you’re getting is worth it.
If you’re prone to impulse shopping, try to avoid malls when it’s sale
season unless you really have something specific in mind that you really
need, then the sale season can be of great advantage but if you’re just
looking for cheap things to buy then forget it.
Learning to be patient especially when shopping for non essentials is
also a good thing as you will get to narrow down what you want and only get
the things that you really like.

*Never bothering to compare prices*

Speaking of being impatient, another common money mistake that people commit
is not having the patience to compare prices when shopping. People who are
on the go tend to just dump things in their shopping baskets without even
looking for cheaper alternatives. While cheap doesn’t always mean its
better, at least you’ll know that you have options. Before paying for an
item, check out the quality and try to go around the mall or market first
before deciding on whether you should get it or not. Making this your new
shopping habit will save you lots of money later on.

*Personal gifts*

It’s a common practice for people to give themselves gifts when they’re
happy, they’re sad, they have something to celebrate, they’re angry at
someone etc. etc. While there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself some
love, always remember that too much of a good thing is bad. While getting
gifts for yourself give you a good feeling, making this a habit is bad for
your finances. Instead of giving yourself a gift when you’re feeling down,
why don’t you just dust yourself off from that mistake and move on? It’s
more productive and you’ll have money to spare.

*Being too generous*

In relation to buying gifts for one’s self, it’s also bad for your finances
if you’re too generous with one’s family, friends, co-workers, even cab
drivers. While it’s nice of you to think of gifts that’d really put a smile
on your loved one’s face, you should still take in consideration the cost of
each gift. You can also try to be more creative, not only will your gift
have a more personal touch but you’ll also be able to save a lot. Also, do
be careful when giving out tips, sometimes you think it’s just loose change
but when you get the total of all those coins there might be fifty pesos
worth of loose change there.

*Not having a savings plan*

If you haven’t tried to seriously save before, then maybe having a savings
plan will make you more motivated to finally save up for your future. By
setting a goal for yourself, you’re more likely to look forward to seeing
your plans come to fruition thus, pushing you to set aside at least 20
percent of your monthly earnings for your savings. It’s wise to open up a
passbook savings account so you can track your progress easily and it won’t
be easy for you to withdraw your money once you feel the itch to shop again.

*Forgetting to keep track of your finances*

Whether it’s for today’s lunch or your weekly grocery shopping, make sure to
always note down how much you’ve been spending per day so that you’ll have a
clear idea of your spending habits. This will also make you realize if
you’re already living beyond your means.

So how many of these common money mistakes do you commit on a daily basis?
There’s actually more bad habits that people tend to pick up over the years
but if you look at this list carefully – especially the suggested solutions
for each one, you’ll realize how easy it is to finally take control of your
personal finances and bid these money mistakes goodbye.

Former President Joseph Estrada, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile
and members of the Senate, House Speaker Prospero Nograles and members
of the House, justices of the Supreme Court, members of the foreign
delegations, Your Excellencies of the diplomatic corps, fellow
colleagues in government, aking mga kababayan.

Ang pagtayo ko dito ngayon ay patunay na kayo ang aking tunay na
lakas. Hindi ko inakala na darating tayo sa puntong ito, na akoâ€™y
manunumpa sa harap ninyo bilang inyong Pangulo. Hindi ko pinangarap
maging tagapagtaguyod ng pag-asa at tagapagmana ng mga suliranin ng
ating bayan.

Ang layunin ko sa buhay ay simple lang: maging tapat sa aking mga
magulang at sa bayan bilang isang marangal na anak, mabait na kuya, at
mabuting mamamayan.

Nilabanan ng aking ama ang diktaturya at ibinuwis niya ang kanyang
buhay para tubusin ang ating demokrasya. Inalay ng aking ina ang
kanyang buhay upang pangalagaan ang demokrasyang ito. Ilalaan ko ang
aking buhay para siguraduhin na ang ating demokrasya ay kapaki-
pakinabang sa bawat isa. Namuhunan na kami ng dugo at handang gawin
itong muli kung kinakailangan.

Tanyag man ang aking mga magulang at ang kanilang mga nagawa, alam ko
rin ang problema ng ordinaryong mamamayan. Alam nating lahat ang
pakiramdam na magkaroon ng pamahalaang bulag at bingi. Alam natin ang
pakiramdam na mapagkaitan ng hustisya, na mabalewala ng mga taong
pinagkatiwalaan at inatasan nating maging ating tagapagtanggol.

Kayo ba ay minsan ring nalimutan ng pamahalaang inyong iniluklok sa
puwesto? Ako rin. Kayo ba ay nagtiis na sa trapiko para lamang
masingitan ng isang naghahari-hariang de-wangwang sa kalsada? Ako
rin. Kayo ba ay sawang-sawa na sa pamahalaang sa halip na magsilbi sa
taumbayan ay kailangan pa nila itong pagpasensiyahan at tiisin? Ako
rin.

Katulad ninyo ako. Marami na sa atin ang bumoto gamit ang kanilang
paa â€“ nilisan na nila ang ating bansa sa kanilang paghahanap ng
pagbabago at katahimikan. Tiniis nila ang hirap, sinugod ang panganib
sa ibang bansa dahil doon may pag-asa kahit kaunti na dito sa atin ay
hindi nila nakikita. Sa iilang sandali na sarili ko lang ang aking
inaalala, pati ako ay napag-isip din â€“ talaga bang hindi na mababago
ang pamamahala natin dito? Hindi kaya nasa ibang bansa ang
katahimikang hinahanap ko? Saan ba nakasulat na kailangang puro
pagtitiis ang tadhana ng Pilipino?

Ngayon, sa araw na ito - dito magwawakas ang pamumunong manhid sa mga
daing ng taumbayan. Hindi si Noynoy ang gumawa ng paraan, kayo ang
dahilan kung bakit ngayon, magtatapos na ang pagtitiis ng sambayanan.
Ito naman ang umpisa ng kalbaryo ko, ngunit kung marami tayong
magpapasan ng krus ay kakayanin natin ito, gaano man kabigat.

Sa tulong ng wastong pamamahala sa mga darating na taon, maiibsan din
ang marami nating problema. Ang tadhana ng Pilipino ay babalik sa
tamang kalagayan, na sa bawat taon pabawas ng pabawas ang problema ng
Pinoy na nagsusumikap at may kasiguruhan sila na magiging tuloy-tuloy
na ang pagbuti ng kanilang sitwasyon.

Kami ay narito para magsilbi at hindi para maghari. Ang mandato ninyo
sa amin ay pagbabago â€“ isang malinaw na utos para ayusin ang gobyerno
at lipunan mula sa pamahalaang iilan lamang ang nakikinabang tungo sa
isang pamahalaang kabutihan ng mamamayan ang pinangangalagaan.

Ang mandatong ito ay isa kung saan kayo at ang inyong pangulo ay
nagkasundo para sa pagbabago â€“ isang paninindigan na ipinangako ko
noong kampanya at tinanggap ninyo noong araw ng halalan.

Sigaw natin noong kampanya: â€œKung walang corrupt, walang mahirap.â€�
Hindi lamang ito pang slogan o pang poster â€“ ito ang mga prinsipyong
tinatayuan at nagsisilbing batayan ng ating administrasyon.

Ang ating pangunahing tungkulin ay ang magsikap na maiangat ang bansa
mula sa kahirapan, sa pamamagitan ng pagpapairal ng katapatan at
mabuting pamamalakad sa pamahalaan.

Ang unang hakbang ay ang pagkakaroon ng tuwid at tapat na hanay ng mga
pinuno. Magsisimula ito sa akin. Sisikapin kong maging isang mabuting
ehemplo. Hinding hindi ko sasayangin ang tiwalang ipinagkaloob ninyo
sa akin. Sisiguraduhin ko na ganito rin ang adhikain ng aking Gabinete
at ng mga magiging kasama sa ating pamahalaan.

Naniniwala akong hindi lahat ng nagsisilbi sa gobyerno ay corrupt. Sa
katunayan, mas marami sa kanila ay tapat. Pinili nilang maglingkod sa
gobyerno upang gumawa ng kabutihan. Ngayon, magkakaroon na sila ng
pagkakataong magpakitang- gilas. Inaasahan natin sila sa pagsupil ng
korapsyon sa loob mismo ng burukrasya.

Sa mga itinalaga sa paraang labag sa batas, ito ang aking babala:
sisimulan natin ang pagbabalik ng tiwala sa pamamagitan ng pag-usisa
sa mga â€œmidnight appointments.â€� Sana ay magsilbi itong babala sa mga
nag-iisip na ipagpatuloy ang baluktot na kalakarang nakasanayan na ng
marami.

Sa mga kapuspalad nating mga kababayan, ngayon, ang pamahalaan ang
inyong kampeon.

Hindi natin ipagpapaliban ang mga pangangailangan ng ating mga
estudyante, kayaâ€™t sisikapin nating punan ang kakulangan sa ating mga
silid-aralan.

Unti-unti din nating babawasan ang mga kakulangan sa imprastraktura
para sa transportasyon, turismo at pangangalakal. Mula ngayon, hindi
na puwede ang â€œpuwede naâ€� pagdating sa mga kalye, tulay at gusali
dahil magiging responsibilidad ng mga kontratista ang panatilihing
nasa mabuting kalagayan ang mga proyekto nila.

Bubuhayin natin ang programang â€œemergency employmentâ€� ng dating
pangulong Corazon Aquino sa pagtatayo ng mga bagong imprastraktura na
ito. Ito ay magbibigay ng trabaho sa mga local na komunidad at
makakatulong sa pagpapalago ng kanila at ng ating ekonomiya.

Hindi kami magiging sanhi ng inyong pasakit at perwisyo. Palalakasin
natin ang koleksyon at pupuksain natin ang korapsyon sa Kawanihan ng
Rentas Internas at Bureau of Customs para mapondohan natin ang ating
mga hinahangad para sa lahat, tulad ng:

Â· dekalidad na edukasyon, kabilang ang edukasyong bokasyonal
para makapaghanap ng marangal na trabaho ang hindi makapag-kolehiyo;

Â· serbisyong pangkalusugan, tulad ng Philhealth para sa lahat
sa loob ng tatlong taon;

Â· tirahan sa loob ng mga ligtas na komunidad.

Palalakasin at palalaguin natin ang bilang ng ating kasundaluhan at
kapulisan, hindi para tugunan ang interes ng mga naghahari-harian,
ngunit para proteksyunan ang mamamayan. Itinataya nila ang kanilang
buhay para mayroong pagkakataon sa katahimikan at kapayapaan sa
sambayanan. Dumoble na ang populasyong kanilang binabantayan, nanatili
naman sila sa bilang. Hindi tama na ang nagmamalasakit ay
kinakawawa.

Kung dati ay may fertilizer scam, ngayon ay may kalinga na tunay para
sa mga magsasaka. Tutulungan natin sila sa irigasyon, extension
services, at sa pagbenta ng kanilang produkto sa pinakamataas na
presyong maaari.

Inaatasan natin si papasok na Kalihim Alcala na magtayo ng mga trading
centers kung saan diretso na ang magsasaka sa mamimili - lalaktawan
natin ang gitna, kasama na ang kotong cop. Sa ganitong paraan, ang
dating napupunta sa gitna ay maari nang paghatian ng magsasaka at
mamimili.

Gagawin nating kaaya-aya sa negosyante ang ating bansa. We will cut
red tape dramatically and implement stable economic policies. We will
level the playing field for investors and make government an enabler,
not a hindrance, to business. Sa ganitong paraan lamang natin
mapupunan ang kakulangan ng trabaho para sa ating mga mamamayan.

Layunin nating paramihin ang trabaho dito sa ating bansa upang hindi
na kailanganin ang mangibang-bansa para makahanap ng trabaho. Ngunit
habang ito ay hindi pa natin naaabot, inaatasan ko ang mga kawani ng
DFA, POEA, OWWA at iba pang mga kinauukulang ahensiya na mas lalo pang
paigtingin ang pagtugon sa mga hinaing at pangangailangan ng ating mga
overseas Filipino workers.

Papaigtingin namin ang proseso ng konsultasyon at pag-uulat sa
taumbayan. Sisikapin naming isakatuparan ang nakasaad sa ating
Konstitusyon na kinikilala ang karapatan ng mamamayan na magkaroon ng
kaalaman ukol sa mga pampublikong alintana.

Binuhay natin ang diwa ng people power noong kampanya. Ipagpatuloy
natin ito tungo sa tuwid at tapat na pamamahala. Ang naniniwala sa
people power ay nakatuon sa kapwa at hindi sa sarili.

Sa mga nang-api sa akin, kaya ko kayong patawarin, at pinapatawad ko
na kayo. Sa mga nang-api sa sambayanan, wala akong karapatan na
limutin ang inyong mga kasalanan.

To those who are talking about reconciliation, if they mean that they
would like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have
committed in the past, we have this to say: there can be no
reconciliation without justice. Sa paglimot ng pagkakasala,
sinisigurado mong mauulit muli ang mga pagkakasalang ito. Secretary de
Lima, you have your marching orders. Begin the process of providing
true and complete justice for all.

Ikinagagalak din naming ibahagi sa inyo ang pagtanggap ni dating Chief
Justice Hilario Davide sa hamon ng pagtatatag at pamumuno sa isang
Truth Commission na magbibigay linaw sa maraming kahinahinalang isyu
na hanggang ngayon ay walang kasagutan at resolusyon.

Ang sinumang nagkamali ay kailangang humarap sa hustisya. Hindi

of the House, justices of the Supreme Court, members of the foreign
delegations, Your Excellencies of the diplomatic corps, fellow
colleagues in government, aking mga kababayan.

My presence here today is proof that you are my true strength. I never
expected that I will be here taking my oath of office before you, as
your president. I never imagined that I would be tasked with
continuing the mission of my parents. I never entertained the ambition
to be the symbol of hope, and to inherit the problems of our nation.

I had a simple goal in life: to be true to my parents and our country
as an honorable son, a caring brother, and a good citizen.

My father offered his life so our democracy could live. My mother
devoted her life to nurturing that democracy. I will dedicate my life
to making our democracy reach its fullest potential: that of ensuring
equality for all. My family has sacrificed much and I am willing to do
this again if necessary.

Although I was born to famous parents, I know and feel the problems of
ordinary citizens. We all know what it is like to have a government
that plays deaf and dumb. We know what it is like to be denied
justice, to be ignored by those in whom we placed our trust and tasked
to become our advocates.

Have you ever been ignored by the very government you helped put in
power? I have. Have you had to endure being rudely shoved aside by the
siren-blaring escorts of those who love to display their position and
power over you? I have, too. Have you experienced exasperation and
anger at a government that instead of serving you, needs to be endured
by you? So have I.

I am like you. Many of our countrymen have already voted with their
feet - migrating to other countries in search of change or
tranquility. They have endured hardship, risked their lives because
they believe that compared to their current state here, there is more
hope for them in another country, no matter how bleak it may be. In
moments when I thought of only my own welfare, I also wondered - is it
possible that I can find the peace and quiet that I crave in another
country? Is our government beyond redemption? Has it been written that
the Filipinoâ€™s lot is merely to suffer?

Today marks the end of a regime indifferent to the appeals of the
people. It is not Noynoy who found a way. You are the reason why the
silent suffering of the nation is about to end. This is the beginning
of my burden, but if many of us will bear the cross we will lift it,
no matter how heavy it is.

Through good governance in the coming years, we will lessen our
problems. The destiny of the Filipino will return to its rightful
place, and as each year passes, the Filipinoâ€™s problems will continue
to lessen with the assurance of progress in their lives.

We are here to serve and not to lord over you. The mandate given to me
was one of change. I accept your marching orders to transform our
government from one that is self-serving to one that works for the
welfare of the nation.

This mandate is the social contract that we agreed upon. It is the
promise I made during the campaign, which you accepted on election
day.

During the campaign we said, â€œIf no one is corrupt, no one will be
poor.â€� That is no mere slogan for posters -- it is the defining
principle that will serve as the foundation of our administration.

Our foremost duty is to lift the nation from poverty through honest
and effective governance.

The first step is to have leaders who are ethical, honest, and true
public servants. I will set the example. I will strive to be a good
model. I will not break the trust you have placed in me. I will ensure
that this, too, will be the advocacy of my Cabinet and those who will
join our government.

I do not believe that all of those who serve in our government are
corrupt. In truth, the majority of them are honest. They joined
government to serve and do good. Starting today, they will have the
opportunity to show that they have what it takes. I am counting on
them to help fight corruption within the bureaucracy.

To those who have been put in positions by unlawful means, this is my
warning: we will begin earning back the trust of our people by
reviewing midnight appointments. Let this serve as a warning to those
who intend to continue the crooked ways that have become the norm for
too long.

To our impoverished countrymen, starting today, your government will
be your champion.

We will not disregard the needs of our students. We will begin by
addressing the glaring shortage in classrooms and educational
facilities.

Gradually, we will lessen the lack of infrastructures for
transportation, tourism and trade. From now on, mediocre work will not
be good enough when it comes to roads, bridges, and buildings because
we will hold contractors responsible for maintaining their projects in
good condition.

We will revive the emergency employment program established by former
President Corazon Aquino. This will provide jobs for local communities
and will help in the development of their and our economy.

We will not be the cause of your suffering or hardship. We will
strengthen collections by the Bureau of Internal Revenue and we will
fight corruption in the Bureau of Customs in order to fund our
objectives for the public welfare, such as:

Â· Quality education, including vocational education, so that
those who choose not to attend college or those who cannot afford it
can find dignified livelihood;

Â· Improved public health services such as PhilHealth for all
within three years;

Â· A home for every family, within safe communities.

We will strengthen the armed forces and the police, not to serve the
interests of those who want to wield power with impunity, but to give
added protection for ordinary folk. The armed forces and the police
risk their lives daily so that the nation can live in peace and
security. The population has doubled and yet their numbers remain
unchanged. It is not right that those who make sacrifices are treated
pitifully.

If there was a fertilizer scam in the past, today there will be
security for farmers. We will help them with irrigation, extension
services, and marketing their products at the best possible prices.

We are directing Secretary Alcala to set up trading centers that will
directly link farmers and consumers thereby eliminating middlemen and
opportunities for corruption. In this way, funds can be shared by
farmers and consumers. We will make our country attractive to
investors. We will cut red tape dramatically and implement stable
economic policies. We will level the playing field for investors and
make government an enabler, not a hindrance to business. This is the
only means by which we can provide jobs for our people.

Our goal is to create jobs at home so that there will be no need to
look for employment abroad. However, as we work towards that end, I am
ordering the DFA, POEA, OWWA, and other relevant agencies to be even
more responsive to the needs and welfare of our overseas Filipino
workers.

We will strengthen the process of consultation and feedback. We will
strive to uphold the constitutional right of citizens to information
on matters of public concern.

We relived the spirit of people power during the campaign. Let it take
us to good and effective governance. Those who believe in people power
put the welfare of others before their own.

I can forgive those who did me wrong but I have no right to forgive
those who abused our people.

To those who talk about reconciliation, if they mean that they would
like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have committed in
the past, we have this to say: there can be no reconciliation without
justice. When we allow crimes to go unpunished, we give consent to
their occurring over and over again. Secretary de Lima, you have your
marching orders. Begin the process of providing true and complete
justice for all.

We are also happy to inform you the acceptance of Chief Justice
Hilario Davide of the challenge of strengthening and heading a Truth
Commission that will shed light on many unanswered issues that
continue to haunt our country.

BEIJING (AFP) - Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday

In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.

'These cheap and colorful rubber bands and hair ties sell well ..... threatening the health of local people,' it said.. Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.

'People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,' the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying. A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just Rs.5, much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said.

A government official was quoted as saying recycling condoms was illegal. China 's manufacturing industry has been repeatedly tarnished this year by a string of scandals involving shoddy or dangerous goods made for both domestic and foreign markets.

In response, it launched a public relations blitz this summer aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems.

Abu Dhabi: Despite eight months of sleepless nights witnessing the suffering of their son, Hendelle and Rhoda Santos Caradang are optimistic that little Mathew's eyesight will be restored.
The eight-month- old Filipino baby boy was born with severe glaucoma. He had to undergo eye surgery six times and has to be woken up at frequent intervals at night to administer eye drops, his parents told Gulf News on Saturday.
The Caradangs have had to move to a small room shared by four others as Hendelle does not earn enough as a petrol station attendant to afford an apartment.
The mother is unemployed at the moment. "I was fighting a court case ... with my previous employer after resigning," said Santos, who won the case but could not find a new job.
"Life has been hard during the past eight months, but we are not frustrated or depressed, because this country has been kind to us, although the problems have not been fully solved."
Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) in Abu Dhabi performed a corneal transplantation free of cost for the baby recently, but the doctors said there are chances of the cornea being rejected.
"To minimise that risk, we have to give him the eye drops every three hours. I try my best to apply eye drops without waking him up, but it is not easy," said Santos, who has developed severe headaches due to lack of sleep.
If Mathew is in a good mood, he permits his mother to apply the eye drops. Otherwise he protests as soon as she touches the stitches on his eyes.
Painful
"It seems it is painful for him," said the parents who are optimistic that treatment will be effective.
The room mates are habituated to the baby crying at night, Santos said.
According to doctors, although glaucoma is common in old people, it is very rare in babies — sometimes a one-time experience in the life of an ophthalmolo- gist.
"We don't have a family history of this disease, it is our baby's bad luck," the parents say.
"SKMC is trying its best to help us with the treatment, but we owe a huge amount to the hospital where he was born because ophthalmology treatment was not covered in the insurance," Santos said.
Mathew's eight-year-old sister who is living with her grandmother in the Philippines is eager to meet her brother.
But Santos cannot travel to bring her as her visa has been cancelled. She hopes labour ministry and immigration officials will consider her request to waive fines and transfer the visa to a new employer if she finds a job.

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster
Manager of theAmerican Rescue Team International (ARTI), the
world's most experienced rescue team. The information in
this article will save lives in an earthquake. I have
crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue
teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several
countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many
countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster
Mitigation (UNX051 -UNIENET) for two years. I have worked at
every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for
simultaneous disasters.

In 1996 we made a film which proved my survival methodology
to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of
Istanbul, University of Istanbul, Case Productions and ARTI
cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We
collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten
mannequins did "duck and cover," and ten mannequins I used
in my "triangle of life" survival method. After the
simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble
and entered the building to film and document the results.
The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under
directly observable, scientific conditions, relevant to
building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent
survival for those doing duck and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for
people using my method of the "Triangle of Life." Simply
stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings
falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these
objects, leaving a space or void next to them. This space is
what I call the "triangle of life." The larger the object,
the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object
compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability
that the person who is using this void for safety will not
be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on
television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are
every where. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a
collapsed building. They are everywhere.

TIPS FROM DOUG COPP:

1) Everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS
COLLAPSE iscrushed to death - every time, without exception.
People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are always
crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies all naturally often curl up in the
fetal position. You should, too, in an earthquake. It is a
natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a
smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to
a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a
void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to
be in during an earthquake. The reason is simple: the wood
is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If
the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are
created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated,
crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual
bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed
bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake
occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist
around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival
rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of
the door of every room, telling occupants to lie down on the
floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens while you are watching
television and you cannot easily escape by getting out the
door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal
position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Everybody who gets under a doorway when buildings
collapse is killed.Why? If you stand under a doorway and the
doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by
the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will
be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be
killed.

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different
"moment of frequency," (they swing separately from the main
part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the
building continuously bump into each other until structural
failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on
stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads.
They are horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't
collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely
part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are
not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later
when overloaded by screaming, fleeing people. They should
always be checked forsafety, even when the rest of the
building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them
If Possible: It is much better to be near the outside of the
building rather than the interior. The farther inside you
are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater
the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside their vehicles are crushed when the road
above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles;
which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the
decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the SanFrancisco
earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were
all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out
and sitting or lying

next to their vehicles, says the author. Everyone killed
would have survived if they had been able to get out of
their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the
crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for
the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed
newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper,
that paper does not compact. Large voidsare found
surrounding stacks of paper.

Govt: Brace for Mayon's hazardous explosion

Residents of towns near Mt. Mayon in Albay province should brace themselves for a hazardous eruption after Christmas, a government volcanologist said Saturday.

Mayon’s intensified abnormal activities within the past 24 hours may indicate a more hazardous explosion in two to three weeks, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum Jr. said in a GMA News report.

“The intensified activities of Mt. Mayon is an indication that the explosion is nearing. The probability that the eruption would be more hazardous is increasing. This might still take time, say, in two to three weeks," he said in a television interview.

However, Solidum warned that the volcano might explode at an earlier time should the Mayon’s abnormal activities intensify even more. “Sometimes, sudden intensification occurs. This will ultimately determine when the eruption will take place," he said. Alert level 3 remains hoisted over Mayon volcano, although state volcanologists are considering on raising it to Level 4 after 197 volcanic quakes were recorded around the area within the past 24 hours, Solidum said. I learned a computer trick today that's really ingenious in its simplicity. As you may know, when/if a worm virus gets into your computer it heads straight for your email address book, and sends itself to everyone in there, thus infecting all your friends and associates.
This trick won't keep the virus from getting into your computer, but it will stop it from using your address book to spread further, and it will alert you to the fact that the worm has gotten into your system.

Here's what you do:

First, open your address book and click on 'new contact,' just as you would do if you were adding a new friend to your list of email addresses.

In the window where you would type your friend's first name, type in 'A'.

For the screen name or email address, type ' AAAAAAA@AAA. AAA '.

Now, here's what you've done and why it works:

The 'name' 'A' will be placed at the top of your address book as entry#1.

This will be where the worm will start in an effort to send itself to all your friends.

But, when it tries to send itself to AAAAAAA@AAA. AAA , it will be undeliverable because of the phony email address you entered. If the first attempt fails (which it will because of the phony address), the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected.

Here's the second great advantage of this method:

If an email cannot be delivered, you will be notified of this in your In Box almost immediately. Hence, if you ever get an email telling you that an email addressed to AAAAAAA@AAA. AAAA could not be delivered, you know right away that you have the worm virus in your system. You can then take steps to get rid of it!

The E2 visa is a special non-immigrant visa available to nationals of treaty countries entering the US to do the following:

a.) Develop and direct the operations of an enterprise in which they have invested, or are actively in the process of investing a substantial amount of capital;

b.) Invest substantially in an already-established US enterprise;

c.) Develop and direct investments from the treaty country.

The investment should create job opportunities for US workers. While it is preferable to have the U.S. workers hired at the time of application for the treaty investor visa, reasonably achievable projections of jobs that will be created in the future is often sufficient.

There is no specific dollar amount that must be invested to meet the substantial amount requirement, but the investment must meet one of two tests:

1.) It must represent a significant proportion of the total value of the business enterprise; or

2.) It must be sufficient to establish a profitable and viable business of the type contemplated.

Family members (spouses and unmarried children under 21) of the principal Treaty Investor visa holder may obtain derivative status that allows them to live, work and attend school in the US.

Treaty Investor visas are generally issued for four or five years, although some consulates issue the first visa for two years. Extensions are generally unlimited as long as the investment continues, and are often reissued for five additional years at a time.

Applicants in this category must have extensive documentation detailing the business plan, the amount of the investment, the nature of the capital, and calculation of jobs to be created. A successful visa application will also demonstrate how the proposed enterprise will benefit the United States.

Treaty Investor (E-2) versus the Business Expansion Visa (L-1A)

It is often the case that one may qualify for either the Treaty Investor (E-2) or Business Expansion (L-1A) visa. The question then arises as to which of the two visas is the most advantageous. Following is our analysis of this question:

The Business Expansion visa has the following distinct advantages:

One does not have to invest a specific amount of cash in advance of visa approval;

Once the case is presented, one can have approval in as little as 7 - 10 days;

Adjudication of the case takes place in the US, rather than at the relevant U.S. Embassy or Consulate (which can be quite tough on investor cases);

The spouse of the principal gets a general work permit during the life of the visa;

Eligibility for Priority Permanent Residency in the US after 1 year.

In contrast, as explained above, the Treaty Investor visa requires the investment of a "substantial" amount of money, in advance of approval, and usually requires adjudication at an American Embassy or Consulate, which can take several weeks.

Also, although one may plan to remain in the US for only a few years, one might very well change one's mind about this at some point in the future; the Treaty Investor visa does not lead to Permanent Residency regardless of the amount of time one spends in the US.

Doctors of Philoophy have spent many years studying and analyzing what successful people do in every walk of life and have come to the following conclusion: there is no single formula for achieving success in any endeavor. But there are core traits that great leaders share in common and I have outlined these below. I suggest that you, as the reader, extensively study this list and focus on a particular trait that might attract your attention during the course of your daily interactions. Review the material daily and eventually it will sink in. If you keep a journal and I suggest that you do, record the successful application of each secret and how it changes your life, feelings and other aspects of your being.

1. How you Think and Feel is Extremely Important. An optimistic and positive mindset always creates success. Negative thinking, cynicism, gloom and doom pushes important people away from you and causes them to not want to be around you. If you have a positive, optimistic outlook on life, you will create a very successful and positive environment. Negative people create negative environments. Are you a source of joy, optimism, encouragement and support or are you a downer, negative evaluator and disrespectful judge of other people? Create a positive thinking/feeling environment and you will create superstar emotional atmospheres. You are the only one who is responsible for your thoughts and your feelings. Do you have a program and a system for working on your thoughts and feelings?

2. Specify and Proclaim your Goals and Dreams. Anything that is not written down is at the peril of being lost. Take it from your head and put it on paper, then commit yourself to developing steps for achieving your goals. If you do not plan for success, you will fail. This applies to all aspects of your life. Do the best with what you have at the moment and trust that increasing knowledge will expand your options. There are infinite possibilities and you are only limited by your self-imposed limited thinking. Expect change and be ready to reinvent yourself as conditions dictate. Modify what has been successful and mold it for future applications. Become an expert at recognizing trends and make sure you are a trendsetter rather than an obsolete dinosaur. Become an evolving species rather than a Neanderthal roadblock.

3. Take Action. Once you make up your mind as to what has to be done, do it. Rewards go to those who take action. Taking action is its own reward and will feed your motivation to want to do more. Make sure you are a person who is moving on, out and up. Temporary setbacks are only springboards to greater actions and achievement. Only thinking about something keeps it in your head. Get up off of your duff and initiate the first action step and you will be rewarded and surprised at what you will discover. Become an action oriented person and your moods will soar. Take care of all business and don't neglect anything. Whatever does not get done will come back and haunt you. It may even attack you. A good offense is a great defense and a great defense creates offense. Become well-rounded and versed in all aspects of your life's strategies.

4. Constant Learning is Fuel for your Brain and your Life. The person who stops learning, stops living. The brain dies from boredom if it is not fed with the juices of new learning. A good lesson is to relearn old lessons and create new and innovative applications to present conditions. Learn from everybody. Listen with your inner ears. Wisdom can only be acquired by constant learning. Talk to people. Read books. Explore new frontiers and perfect underdeveloped capabilities. If you are not learning it, someone else will and you will be passed by. Don't be afraid of standing on the precipice of the outer edge of creative reality. Innovators are in short supply. Stand on the shoulders of giants and recognize all of your role models outside of your family. The seeds of greatness that are already inside of you can be tapped into, cultivated and sprung forth by the greatness of other great people. Know your mentors, your teachers and those who will have a positive influence on your life. Learn also from those who cause you pain. They are also the springboards to greater knowledge.

5. Work Hard and Maintain your Persistence. Success goes to those who work harder and better than others. That extra effort can make all of the difference between superstar success and mediocrity. When you stumble and fall, and you will, pick yourself up and keep going. You are a person on the move, going forward, outward and upward. Analyze and adjust to each new challenge by reinventing yourself. Never settle for the status quo. Get rid of those who hold you back and keep you down. You are a person on a mission. Maintain a laserlike focus on your target and hone in with precise determination and energized effort. Never stand still, unless you want to be a target for those with lesser integrity. The prize goes to the one who overcomes the most adversity and aims for the stars.

6. Pay Attention to Detail. But, don't get bogged down in irrelevant information. Use your analytic ability and your intuitive powers to gather all of the necessary facts and information. Seek input and welcome feedback from the proper sources who will support you. Your mistakes are your greatest assets and can motivate you to greater heights. You can always do better. Hone and develop your talents and your skills. Work on yourself at the deepest levels in order to discover your specific truths and then build your decisions on your self-discovery method. There is no substitute for self-knowledge and a solid identity. When seeking knowledge, go to the experts and internalize what they have to teach. Teach and use what you learn in order to improve the lives of others. Know your enemies and discover their hidden agendas. What are they trying to prove and how are they trying to impress you? Never let someone else's poison stay in your system too long.

7. Focus, Manage and Control your Time and Money. Maintain your laser beam focus. Know and set your priorities and don't allow anything to distract you from the necessary work that you have to do in your life. Stay centered and grounded in the very core of your being and do not sacrifice, give up or lose yourself to anything outside of yourself. Never make a false idol out of money. Manage your cash or it will bury you in debt. Credit cards are really debt cards. Don't be fooled or seduced by the hype and misleading labels. Never spend more than you earn and what you save can make you rich. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Make every purchase work for you to enhance your productivity. Stay ahead of the game and don't slip behind. Your time is your most precious commodity. Make sure you give undivided attention and considerable time to those people and activities that are required for your internal prosperity and happiness. Get rid of those things in your life that are just hanging around and collecting dust. Make sure your day is filled with exciting creativity and rich human interactions. Render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what is God's.

8. Learn To Be An Effective Communicator. Successful people never take their communications for granted. They learn and relearn how to be extremely effective communicators. Not only do they express themselves from the very centered core of their being, but they also possess an enormous capacity for empathic understanding and active empathic listening skills. They do not provoke arguments, act defensively or create defensiveness in other people. They do not let important messages slip by them. They slow the action down and deeply dissect every bit of important information that comes towards them. They are highly motivated to deeply understand other people's motivations, conflicts, feelings and most important needs. They listen deeply, reflectively, supportively and nonjudgmentally. They also know how to set effective limits to their own and other people's questionable behavior.

Successful communicators are warm, friendly, flexible, humorous and always helpful. They possess strong conversational skills that allow for equal back and forth flow. They never try to be controlling, hostile or demanding. They express their needs and preferences openly and have a deep regard for effective communication with their deeper selves. They know how to monitor their own conversations and are quick to ask for feedback when and where it is appropriate.

With the people that you know, which ones do you look forward to and enjoy talking with? What people look forward to and enjoy talking with you? Which people make you feel special? What people feel special after having talked with you? These questions can be applied to all of your relationships. Be honest with yourself! Make a list of the people you look forward and enjoy talking to. Which people do you not enjoy conversing with? List those individuals that you go out of your way to avoid talking to. Which persons find you completely believable? Which individuals do you not find believable? After you have conducted this inventory, ask yourself, "Why" you arrived at the conclusions that you did. Hopefully, your most intimate relationships will consist of those people that you absolutely feel comfortable and enjoy talking to. At this point, you may have already concluded which people cause you discomfort, pain and negative emotions and which people create the exact opposite feelings inside of you.

9. Clear Intelligence/Superior Thinking: Develop Effective Thinking. Effective thought is a hallmark of the successful person. They know how to observe their own thinking and are quick to determine what thought processes are ineffective and even damaging. They tend to be extremely optimistic, reality oriented, non-accusatory, solution and goal focused. They never get bogged down in problems and understand the necessity for applying effective negotiation skills and achieving mutually satisfying win-win outcomes. They are not interested in power struggles or right/wrong thinking.

Their thinking is flexible and focused on effective strategies, not on win lose solutions. They rarely ever get bogged down in belief systems and negativity. Their thinking is always upward and geared towards higher mood states. They do not whine, complain and think egotistically. Their thought processes are genuinely focused on the welfare and success of other people. They refuse to keep pushing ineffective strategies and are willing to explore the effective thinking processes of other creative people. They understand that there are many sides to any story or situation. They also understand that perceptions are subjective and never reflective of total reality. They do not insult themselves or other people. They know who they are at a core level and appreciate the goodness in people and the world. They also understand that everyone has to face evil and not get cynical about it. These Superior/smart thinking people ask great questions and genuinely seek answers to real issues rather than personal superiority. These people are not fault or guilt finding. They think proactively, responsively and know how to monitor and control their reactive thinking. They are excellent involved observers and know how to steer conversations in a productive direction.

10. Develop The Traits To Becoming Likeable and Lovable. If you have ever noticed when you were drawn to the personality of another human being, you were probably responding to their like ability/love ability. What makes these people so charismatic and magnetic? It's their personality. They possess like ability/love ability traits and characteristics. Are you attractive in this way? Do you possess those traits that make you an attraction magnet for other people? The paradox here is that you may be a physically attractive but an emotionally repugnant person. This deadly combination creates ambivalence in others. They want to get close to you because of your lovable physical attributes, but feel repulsed when they discover your hidden hateful traits.

A pure soul is a rare find, while most people contain a mixture of lovable and destructive qualities. If you want to be successful in the world, take a deep and extensive inventory into what makes you likable and hateful. Your hateful parts will keep others away. Your lovable aspects will draw people towards you. Find out what makes you lovable and what makes you emotionally and interpersonally unattractive. If it is possible, let yourself embark on a huge and profitable journey of self-exploration and revampment. You are not condemned to remain the same person that you were earlier in your life. You can transform your self from the inside out over and over again in order to make yourself more attractive and lovable to yourself and those people who really matter. Self growth and self transformation can be one off your most important self loving characteristics.

It is important that you transform your self-hatred to self love in an non-egotistical fashion. I'm mean making yourself emotionally and physically lovable to yourself and relevant others, so that spending time with you is a wonderful and positive experience. It may be helpful to recognize that there are three levels of like ability. There is your frontline social personality, followed by your deeper real feeling self. On the third bottom-line level is your soul, a repository for your real self that needs no changing, healing or transformation. This is a place that contains your true essence by which you are anchored in the real world and the cosmos. Gaining access and working on these various levels will give you the opportunity for actualizing your love ability.

11. Inner Directed Soul: Become the Architect of Who You Are and What You Do. This is the place inside of you where you are the director and architect of yourself and your experience. At some point, you will discover that many of the answers to life are not "outside of yourself." This realization may inform you that you are cut off and out of touch with your feelings and your real self. When you make the commitment to recover all of yourself, your feelings and your experiences, you will become identified with this deeper, more real self. You will enjoy and look forward to going "inside" in order to gain clarity, insight, wisdom, answers and profound growth. This will usher in a new developmental stage exemplified by Inner self direction, self trust, self-love, empathy and love for other people and life itself. This remarkable reconnection and reintegration into your real self will change who you are and serve as a directing guidepost for dealing with life.

This Inner directed journey, with its internal compass, will put you in touch and in control of your very being, your moods, thoughts and eternal wisdom. You will find answers here that you cannot get anywhere else. It is here that you will recover all of the lost and repressed parts of your self and those parts which will make you more effective and powerful when dealing with yourself and the world. You will know your self at the deepest and highest levels. It is here in the deepest recesses of your real self that you will discover infinite, unlimited possibilities. It is also here that you will overcome, transcend and surmount your own limitations and narrow views of reality. It is here where you will transcend your ego's boundaries of time and space and participate in the sounds and music of the universe. It is here where you will be living in tune to the song and dance of unlimited creation. It is here where you will transcend the transient nature of this world and live wholeheartedly in the eternity of the next. It is here where you will experience the most profound healing and the ultimate connection with the very Source of Your Being. It is here where you will enjoy and encounter the most profound intimacy with your Sacred Creator, the Holy One. If that isn't success, then I do not know what success is!

12. Creative Cosmic Productivity: Find Your Purpose In Life. Through your connection to the full flow of life and existence, you will have access to infinite creativity. This is not the place for quick fixes, Band-Aids and patch up jobs. This is not the place for asking, "How long will it take?" This is the place for commitment and dedication to the entire flow of the creative process and its cosmic influences. This is not the place for superficial solutions that temporarily promise to eradicate pain and suffering. This is the place where you enter into the unlimited energy of creation itself. This is a place where you become a lifelong participant and partner in the creative process. This is where you drop the clock and accept the full responsibility for finding the long-range cures and answers to life's problems and dilemmas. This is the place where your ordinary creativity blossoms into extraordinary and unique fulfillment of your many hidden gifts and potentials. This is the place where you gain access to those deeper regions of yourself where your mind and your soul reveal the amazing greatness that is part of who you are. This is the place where you realize who you are and what your purpose in life is all about.

13. Create Balance In Your Life. If you are like most people you will probably have concentrated most of your energy into one specific area that seems vital and important to you. However, at some point the neglected areas of your life will come back and haunt you. There is a saying, "What good is it if a man gains the whole world and loses his soul." Many very successful people gain extraordinary recognition, fame and fortune only to be plagued by some long forgotten and neglected aspect of their lives. If you have unfinished business with certain areas of your existence, now is the time to bring those areas up to par.

Maybe you need to take better care of your health, finances, family life, your internal emotional existence; plus your spirituality. Perhaps your marriage needs improving or you need upgrading of many of your emotional, interpersonal, communications, professional and business skills. Now is the time to become brutally honest with your self and get busy taking care of those areas that need your attention. This personal inventory does not require the brain of a rocket scientist. You already probably know what needs attending to. This is not the time to make excuses, procrastinate or put it off to someone or something else. It is your responsibility to take care of those aspects of your life that are holding you back from complete success.

A Notebook That Can Never Hack

A nasty worm has wriggled into millions of computers and continues to spread, leaving security experts wondering whether the attack is a harbinger of evil deeds to come.

US software protection firm F-Secure says a computer worm known as "Conficker" or "Downadup" had infected more than nine million computers by Tuesday and was spreading at a rate of one million machines daily.

"This is enormous; possibly the biggest virus we have ever seen," said software security specialist David Perry of Trend Micro.

This is so threatening since I guess not one of the most establishments today is not using computers.

As Perry continued that everyone should be careful for their passwords. People should harden passwords by mixing in numbers, punctuation marks, and upper-case letters. Doing so makes it millions of times harder for passwords to be deduced, according to Perry.

And he mention also about one un-hackable notebook:
"Go get a notebook, keep it next to your computer and record your password in it. No hacker in the world can hack the written page locked away in your office."

Maybe you don't realize the importance of first impressions. Your appearance (from head to toe) makes a world of difference in helping a woman decide if she's attracted to you. And if you look good, you feel good. Dress in a manner that helps your confidence level. But if you happen to be dressed less than your best and spot a plum situation, don't let your attire prevent you from approaching a woman who interests you.

AND can work 18 hour days."

The angel moved closer and touched the woman.
"But you have

made her so soft, Lord."

"She is soft," the Lord agreed,
"but I have also made her tough.
You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."

"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel.

The Lord replied,
"Not only will she be able to think,
she will be able to reason and negotiate."

The angel then noticed something,
and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek.
"Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model.
I
told you that you were trying to put too much into
this one."

"That's not a leak,"
the Lord corrected,
"that's a tear!"
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.

The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing
her joy,
her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love,
her loneliness, her grief and her pride."
The angel was impressed.
"You are a genius, Lord.
You thought of everything!
Woman is truly amazing."

And she is!
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness,
love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts
break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think there is no
strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss
can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep
turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have vital things to say and everything to

If there are people out there who still don't
believe in the cocky & funny, QUIT DOUBTIN' IT AND
START WORKIN' IT!

The other night I was at a burger joint near my
office. It's one of those grungy independent
places that's popular with the locals, and out of
towners make a point to visit if they're here for
something else. The line had snaked around, and a
group of three cuties was standing in front of my
table. They were talking about what they'd heard,
and one of them said she was looking forward to
their fries.

Since I had a bunch of fries in front of me, I
made eye contact and gave my fries a Vanna White
flourish with my hands. She said, "Wow those look
good. Can I?"

I offered her one of my fries. She dipped it in my
cup of ketchup, and right as she popped it in her
mouth, I looked her in the eye and said "By the
way, I double-dip." In the space of two seconds,
her expressions ranged from shock at my brashness,
to wondering whether she should be grossed out, to
laughing.

I knew I could have gotten her e-mail/number...
and the thing is, I didn't even want to, because
I've been seeing a solid eight. Sure, there are
hotter, but until recently I would have thought
she was entirely out of my league. And I ALWAYS
bust her balls. She's always coming up to me,
saying "Gimme kiss". I think for a second and say,
"Umm... no, but thanks!" And then she's
enthusiastically kissing me. Or more.

I'm not the hottest guy out there. I'm pretty fat,
actually. But women hate how desperation smells,
and if a beautiful woman sees that you're not
looking for just anyone who'll return the
conversation, and that you're not intimidated by
their looks, that's GOLD, man, GOLD.

In fact, it's even worked for me at the office.
Now, yes, here you have to be more careful. And it
doesn't substitute for competence. But my boss
sees I'm not intimidated, and I get stuff done. In
fact, today I just landed a $5K raise.

You must be tired of hearing it... well, hear it

to most of the guys who read it, let me do the
honors of breakin' it down for ya...

When someone says something like this, what
they're trying to say is that there's something
about "desperation" that women pick up on... but
it's not easy to describe.

Desperation comes across in all kinds of subtle
ways, from how you talk to a woman, to the eye
contact that you make, to how often you call her.

Women can "smell" it because women are
approximately TEN TIMES better at reading body
language than men. Your body language says
everything about you to a woman... so, if you want
to get better at attracting women, you'd better
start paying attention to and taking control of
it.

Start with your posture. Lift your chest.

Lean back, not forward.

Leaning forward is usually a "needy" signal.

Leaning back is usually a signal of strength.

Slow down your movements.

Fast movements convey nervousness and
skittishness.

It's a good idea to take some time and study

My girlfriend is actually a sucker for date movies; you name it, she knows it. Anyway, her love for those movies is contagious I seem to have turned into a date movie addict.

But unlike her, am not so familiar with all those cheesy and mushy films. However I saw this overview of the movie Sleepless in Seattle, and honestly, it intrigued me that I want to watch it myself.

Meanwhile, Annie becomes convinced that it is her destiny to meet Sam, Jonah's lovely dad. And as Annie sees it, there are just two minor problems. First, she is presently engaged to marry another man whom she does love. And, of course, Jonah's dad does not even know yet that he and Annie are made for each other.

I just Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan does make a good chemistry. I heard several rave reviews for the movie.

1 in 3 Women Engaged in Online Dating Have Sex on First Meeting

This post is for those who are interested in online dating. It’s a transcript from "The Big Story With John Gibson," dated August 30, 2007 and was published in FoxNews.com.

It presents a recent research that reveals that 1 in 3 women who engage in online dating have sex on the first meet. Well I doubt if it is still called a “one-night-stand” when they’ve been chatting online for quite a while already.

JULIE BANDERAS, "BIG STORY" GUEST HOST: Is it still a one-night stand if you have been chatting on the Internet? Well, a new study out of Houston claims women who are going to great lengths to screen possible suitors online are not as picky once they meet the person in person. The study shows one in three women who meet a guy they have chatted with online reported having sex on the first date. Three-quarters of those women said they didn't use protection.

So why are women who are being so picky when choosing a possible mate online willing to take sexual risks when in person? With me now is relationship expert and sexologist Logan Levkoff.

Logan, this is sort of disturbing. Women are online, they're meeting these guys and then they're going out and having sex after they're so picky. What's up?

LOGAN LEVKOFF, RELATIONSHIP EXPERT: Women really have a skewed perception of risk. The fact is that you need to screen men online as well as offline once you meet them. The fact that they are having sex with these guys is not as disturbing to me as the fact that they are foregoing the condoms completely. So they're trusting that these guys are sexually healthy, that their lives aren't at risk for meeting someone who may or may not have created a totally different persona online. That's the part that's really scary.

BANDERAS: And when they're online, they don't necessarily think they're about to have sex? I mean, one expert, I read, said that people behave differently in the heat of the moment from when they plan ahead. So are women's emotions making them lose their common sense?

LEVKOFF: One of the experts in the study said that, yes, some of what's being said is in the heat of the moment and people make poor decisions about sex. But you know what, that's not really good enough anymore because we know that sex can be risky. It's best with a condom when it's protected and if you know you're going to meet someone you've had this intimate relationship with online, then shouldn't you be prepared?

BANDERAS: OK. What's virtual intimacy? It's mentioned in the study. What's that all about?

LEVKOFF: It's basically the idea that online you can develop these intimate emotional kinds of connections, but it really is just virtual. There is no guarantee that who you are or who you meet online is going to be who they are face-to-face.

BANDERAS: OK. And most of these conversations, how long do they last before they actually go out on that first date and eventually hop into the sack?

LEVKOFF: Well everyone is different. Some people speak for days, some people speak for months. But the fact is we have to use the same screening if we met someone in a bar as we do online. It's the same thing.

BANDERAS: OK, but let's just speak on the emotional side of women. Would you say from your personal experience knowing this industry that women are looking for love or looking for sex online? What do you think?

LEVKOFF: There is a lot of wanting to have an emotional connection, but the fact is that sex is important and sometimes it's easier for women to look for it online.

BANDERAS: And what about men?

LEVKOFF: Men might look online. That doesn't mean they get it though.

BANDERAS: You don't necessarily think men are looking for their future wives online as much as maybe women are looking for husbands?

LEVKOFF: I think that we're so busy trying to balance work and play that we have to look online sometimes to find romance.

BANDERAS: It's tough to find romance.

I was actually reviewing my previous emails and read these mails about love or something related to that…

Anyway, since I am always put in space thinking of subjects for my blog, I thought “Hey! Why not add this one?”

Today, the post is about the benefits of sex. These are pretty amusing “facts” whether you believe it or not about the act of making love.

Did you know that we can determine if a person is sexually active or not by looking at her skin?

1. Sex is a beauty treatment. Scientific tests have shown that a woman who has sexual relations produces big amounts of estrogen which makes hair shiny and soft. (You don’t need those conditioners!)

2. To make love in soft and relaxed way reduces the possibilities of suffering from dermatitis and acne. The sweat produced cleans pores and makes the skin shine. (Good bye to your expensive moisturizers!)

3. To make love allows to burn all the calories accumulate is this romantic love scene. (No need to go to the gym)

4. Sex is one of the safest sports. It strengthens and tones all body muscles. It is more enjoyable than doing 20 lapses in the pool. And you don’t need special shoes! (Now, that’s more like it)

5. Sex is an instantaneous cure against depression. It frees endorphines in the blood flow, creating a state of euphoria and leaves us with a feeling of well-being. (For some positive outlook)

6. The more we make love, the more we have the capacity to do more. A body sexually active releases a higher amount of pheromone. This subtle aroma excites the opposite sex! (Whew)

7. Sex is the safest tranquilizer in the world. IT IS 10 TIMES MORE EFFICIENT THAN VALIUM. (Yipes!)

8. To kiss everyday allows avoiding the dentist. Kisses aid saliva in cleaning teeth and lower the quantity of acids causing enamel weakening. (That’s one big, clean smile)

9. Sex relieves headaches. Each time we make love, it releases the tension in brain veins. (No more paracetamols)

10. To make love a lot can heal a nasal congestion. Sex is a natural antihistaminic. It helps fight asthma and spring allergies. (Didn’t I say it’s a medicine?)

Some Love

I am never an expressive person, I can count by my fingers the number of times I said I love you to my loved ones. However, I do am a person who believes that love is the reason why people become humans – superior with intelligence and emotions.

Love can either make or break a person. As the quote said it can stab the heart during heartbreaks but it can carve wonderful images in the end.

We may get hurt, we may shed tears, we may sometimes go “crazy” but love will always make our lives colorful.

I would be very honest; I have never given any girl chocolates, not even my girlfriend. Okay, call me a jerk or whatever but since then I find the gesture “corny” or just plain putting in your best foot. I just wanted to be real.

It's all in the TV shows - for a week the concept of the episodes revolve around L-O-V-E, love!

My sister seems too giddy either - making cards and planning for activities for a "grand day." My friends have their own share of plans as well; excited to take part of the Lovapalooza. What's with this day????

So it's Valentine's Day... i guess it's only here in the Philippines where people make a really big deal out of this 'celebration.' it's a holiday for everyone... So are for the flower shops, gift centers, hotels and motels that are being crowded.

But does it take to have a Vanetine's Day to express your love for everyone? Is it just exclusive for lovers and alike?

February 14 is a celebration of love, but it shouldn't be as grand as everybody believes. It shouldn't be an exclusive celebration.
So who cares if you're single? Who cares if you don't have a plan or a gift for somone special? that shouldn't stop you from showing the world your capacity to love and be loved...

Lately I have been reading alot of articles from Cosmopolitan.com, personally I find their columns interesting, and well, hits reality most of the times.

Here's an article that features a girl's paranoia of a cheating boyfriend. Who wants to be cheated right? The advice given by Dr. Brenda Shoshanna is really good, and I think every girl should sit back and think about the situation..

The Problem...

I have been with my boyfriend for more than nine months now. We love each other very much. Yet, I have a recurring problem -- paranoia that he is going to cheat on me. Whenever he goes out with his friends, I tell him that it's okay with me, but he knows that it's not. This usually leads to a half hour-long discussion that includes him trying to calm my nerves. One night, just a few weeks ago, he went out with his best friend. We were talking on the phone and he asked me to call him in the morning, because he didn't know when he was going to get home. I froze and didn't say anything for a moment. Right away he knew that I was thinking that he was going to do something questionable, so we talked about it. His friend was in the car and heard everything. I felt horrible. I'm paranoid and I can't help it. I have problems with anxiety attacks, and I'm going to see a professional soon to get help. I feel that if I keep acting like this, I'm going to eventually drive him away. I have had boyfriends cheat on me before. I know my current boyfriend would never have an affair, but I can't help but be suspicious. I don't want to lose him.

Doctor's Advice

When "paranoia," or extreme distrust, arises in a relationship there are many factors that could be causing it, including leftover hurt from past relationships or a lack of confidence and low self-esteem. You need to find out where your feelings are coming from, or you might fall into the trap of blaming your partner, putting all kinds of unhealthy demands on him and even accusing him of cheating when he is not. Not only does this destroy his trust in himself and his self-esteem, but he can easily grow to feel as though there is no way he can please you, or make you secure and happy.
When you give into these feelings of paranoia, (or extreme fear, suspiciousness and jealousy) and begin to create more restrictions on your boyfriend, or demand more information about what he is doing, you are risking the relationship. Loving another person does not mean possessing them, or relying on them to help you feel better about yourself. In that case, you are using another person and not loving or respecting him.

Individuals need time alone, time with friends and, of course, time together. When you take away your significant other's freedom to enjoy the other aspects of his life, you are being unfair and you are stunting his emotional growth. Sooner or later he may begin to feel resentment, trapped, misunderstood and falsely accused. Naturally, a person in this position will start to think of ways to get out of the relationship.

You have had a boyfriend cheat on you before. Clearly, you never resolved your feelings about this, or worked through the hurt and loss you felt. Now you are projecting these same feelings onto your current boyfriend, who has done nothing to deserve this attitude. You have lost sight of the fact that this person is different and that you are in a new situation. The past has flooded you, and unconsciously you are seeking to correct what happened before.

You have deep feelings of inadequacy, insecurity and you seem to believe that you cannot hold onto your new boyfriend's love -- a result of many factors including your previous relationships and events from your childhood that might have made you feel unloved. These feelings have nothing to do with your new boyfriend. They are internal. You must realize what is going on, and get assistance working out these feelings. If you rely on your boyfriend to take away the pain you feel from the past, you will be disappointed sooner or later. You are looking in the wrong direction. No matter how loving a boyfriend is, he cannot take away pain and confusion that exists within you. We each have to take responsibility for our own feelings and take action to make things right.
Just as we work out in a gym each day, we need to work on ourselves emotionally to build the strength to combat fear and negativity. One exercise (taken from my book, Zen and the Art of Falling in Love) that can be used is to consciously look for the positive in yourself and your boyfriend. When you find yourself dwelling on the negative, step back, take a deep breath and consciously choose to focus upon what is good and right. Counseling and daily exercises can help turn things around if you are battling paranoia. Here is another exercise from the book that may be helpful:

Relinquishing Blame
Whom or what do you blame for the difficulties you are facing? In what ways do you blame yourself? Make a list. Now, notice how blaming simply serves as a screen, preventing you from seeking the full picture of what is going on. See how you may think it may even be protecting you. Give up some blame today. Go to the top of your list and completely let go of blaming that person or circumstance. Breathe deeply as you do this. Send the person good wishes. View the situation much as you would view a thunderstorm: intense, with much rain, noise, lightening and commotion. Like intense anger or difficulty, even the most frightening thunderstorm passes. The trick is not holding onto it and making it more than it is.

Yes, we have been called by a lot of names already; users, insensitive morons, and other titles alike. Reality is, it’s not easy to get ‘dumped,’ even the word itself is not easy to put into writing. Besides, breakups are never easy, right?

So maybe it wasn’t only once that you’ve experienced a breakup. Some may have specific reasons, but some breakups leave you wondering, “What went wrong?” You went out with that great guy and had a ‘seemingly’ perfect spark together, until he just stops calling you, texting you, worst, he doesn’t show up anymore!

Wrong Timing

Let’s face it; you women tend to get serious when you think you’ve found “the one.” We, men get serious to someone who comes at the point we are ready of settling down. So if you’ve caught us prior to that ‘magical stage,’ then… Sorry. Actually it doesn’t really matter if you’re the best girl in town, what matters is, you are the person at the best time.

Thought of a Worst-Case Scenario

Actually, we guys are like kids, too. We’re afraid our ‘paradise days’ would soon come to an end. No matter how perfect things seem are, we know this won’t last long. As defense mechanism, we tend to look for ‘another’ paradise before the previous turns to hell.

Difference Between Like and Love

Sorry, this may seem harsh but although we go crazy over you, this does not mean that this kind of ‘fondness’ will soon turn out to be love. So why do we invest with a lot of time for such kind of relationship? Let’s just say, we enjoy the moment while it lasts.

We’ve Been Caught

If you think those reasons mentioned were petty enough, then try this: we’re just scared of our emotions. Yes, we are paranoid and vulnerable just when we feel we’ve found the ‘one.’ When we get too emotional and start to get serious with someone, that’s when we also feel scared of getting hurt.

So before we get all too caught up with our emotions, ending the relationship would be a better option.

And didn’t I say we are too petty? The next time you see yourself in another break-up, believe us when we say, “It’s not about you… it’s us..”

For Practicality’s Sake

Carrying bags of grocery items and a box of pizza, Michelle, our neighbor is definitely in good mood. Though not armed with proper education, her luck seems to overflow. There is no wonder why some of our neighbors are green with envy. When my aunt asked her where she gets those cash, she just smile and respond; “Nagpadala na sad akong ka-chat na Mer.” (My American chatmate sent it)

The other day, my girlfriend mentioned about a neighbor about to go abroad to marry her long-time African-American chatmate. The catch is, that neighbor of theirs is married here with three children, the family doesn’t know of the chatmate though. She just told her family she applied as a domestic helper abroad.

These scenarios are no longer taboo in the society. Every year more and more Filipinas engage in online chatting and find a living from it. For most Pinays, this technology is an easy escape to poverty. Who wouldn’t be enticed for an easy dollar out of ‘little’ skin exposure and exchange of sweet-nothings? For 20pesos an hour, you don’t get out an internet café empty handed.

Proficient English literacy is not a requirement at all! Who cares if your education? All you need is the ability to entertain these lonely ‘Joes’ looking for companion and…erp… ‘live show.’

“Ilang makita pero dili makaptan,” (They can watch but not touch) as for Michelle, the exposure of skin does not matter a lot since the more skin you show, the more money you get. “Wala na nang ulaw-ulaw, lisod na kayo ang panahon, ang importante maka kwarta.” (There’s no room for shame anymore, in difficult times, making money is what matters). “Kung swerte ka basin minyuan pa jud ka sa imong ka-chat.” (If you are lucky, your chatmate might marry you).

I guess this proves true to my girlfriend’s neighbor who was offered a ‘better life’ abroad through marriage. Taking out in the picture the complications she is about to face legally and socially, is there really a better life ahead?

I don’t think there’s a ‘happy-ever-after’ part to this. I don’t think both parties (the Filipina and the foreigner) really believe in romance. Besides, what they had is a monitor screen between them. What they had is a relationship based on commensalism, the ‘Joe’ for companionship, and the Pinay for the money.

A better life abroad after marriage? I don’t think so. How do these women expect their chatmates, now partners to treat them with respect if they didn’t show any respect for themselves from the very start? They married these foreigners for money, and these foreigners will always see them just that.

There is no wonder why more of these lonely “Joe’s” enter the chat room and look for Pinays. To them, we are good entertainers… Just mere entertainers ready to expose everything for some dollars.

I guess this all boils down to poverty, hanging on to every means just to get out from poverty. For these Pinays, the reason is always practicality. But I guess these women should ponder upon the impacts of this ‘practicality’ to their selves and the people surrounding them.

Fergalicious 2007 for Fergie

Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie starts the year with a blast as her second single Fergalicious soars high to the number 1 spot at the US Billboard Pop 100.

A whooping 265,000 digital copies sold brought the single to its throne, taking over Destiny’s Child chic Beyonce Knowles’ “Irrieplaceable.” It was released October 19, 2006. The single is a follow up of Fergie’s debut single London Bridge which blasted the worldwide charts and sold more than 2,816,000 copies.

A combination of “Fergie” and “Delicious,” Fergalicious also featured the voice of fellow Black Eyed Peas member, Will. I. Am.

“London Bridge” and “Fergalicious” are just part of the album entitled Dutchess, released September 19,2006 setting foot of Stacy Ann Ferguson a.k.a. Fergy’s solo career apart from her BlackEyedPeas gang.

After the smashing hit of these singles, another single entitled “Glamorous” is set to be released. The single will feature a collaboration with hip-hop artist, Ludacris.

Shoot me! I don't know what there is to write... Places...where? Faces...who?...Food..what?...bottom line is I'm losing track of my concentration already, my blog is too vague that it's impossible to fall out of topics. So why am I clicking my fingers here putting my sentiments if there's really alot to write about?

I guess i need a break...I need a refresher... I need to do something new to come up with new and fresh ideas for my blog. But how do I do it when all the while I'm just here sitting in front of my computer doing some listings for my job? I have to get updated and see the world in a different angle...I need to get my drive back!

Juan's Balut

If you are one of those who think that balut is an exclusive delicacy in the Philippines, then think again. Balut, a duck embryo in a shell, a.k.a. an aborted duck fetus, is also a famous delicacy in other Asian countries like China, Cambodia, and Vietnam. But the term ‘balut’ is a Filipino (and Malay) word which means “wrapped.”

Although these Asian countries do serve balut too, it is the Filipinos who are known to be great eaters of this unique delicacy. Almost everywhere in the Philippines, when the sun sets, and streets are dark, you hear men (even women) bringing baskets shouting the ‘semi-musical’ “baluuuuuuuuut, penoy (duck eggs not fully developed after 9-12 days).” The delicacy is also expected to be present in every drinking session in the country. It may seem hard for Filipinos then to imagine that this special food is used for challenges to foreigners, Fear Factor style.

At present, the delicacy have reached a higher cuisine level as it is now being served as appetizers in some restaurants.

City Tales

When I was a kid, my friends and I used to gather around and talk of myths and legends. Everybody else had a story to tell: romance to horror, comedy to make believe stories. The amazing thing is that we all believed each other’s story.

One story I cannot forget was that of the Oro – a fish of some sort so enormous people believe it’s as long as the distance of Gaston Park to the pier in Macabalan. One urban legend tells of an altar server who fell into the (Gaston Park) fountain. Seeing the Oro and struggling to surface off the water, he swam and swam till he reached the tip of the Fish’s tail. When he emerged from the water, he realized he was already in Macabalan.

Many believe that the Oro was the guardian of various treasures cloaked beneath the mystic Cagayan River. A cause of some tremors, others also insinuate that it brings about some shaking to the Ysalina Bridge during New Year’s Eve, when firecrackers holler boisterous bangs and booms throughout the City. Moreover, the exaggeration hits its prophetic tendencies to foretell the doomsday – whence the Oro swims, the lands shall collapse and drown in the waters.

Admittedly, I used to believe and be astonished by such creative and engaging stories. Baseless, hoax, or raw balderdash – the interestingness of those folklores just happens to overrule logic, capture the innocence of children, and form part of tradition.

I shall be reminiscing my childhood conviction for the world of make-believe as I explore the stories behind the name “Cagayan de Oro” – the urban legends, the folklores, and more.

Tribal Wars, Love, and Dishonor

…. Cagayan de Oro got its name is told in of that story of a Bukidnon chieftain on the eastern side of Cagayan River (whose name according to old folks was Mansicampo), once had a quarrel with a Muslim Datu across the river (now the RER Subdivision), his name was Bagongsalibo.
The quarrel became intense that the Bukidnon chieftain wanted it settled by war. However, the Muslim Datu across the river wanted to live in peace with his people in that part of Cagayan.
Mansicampo then called on all his followers and relatives from the Bukidnon tribes of Daan Lunsod, gathered on the eastern side of the river ready for combat then Mansicampo ordered his son, the Bagani, to go and see Datu Bagongsalibo and arranged for a council of war.
Therefore, the young prince went to see the Muslim Datu and confirmed with him. During the conference, however the young prince noted that there was a beautiful young woman who kept on peeping from behind a door looking at him.
She was so beautiful that the young prince was immediately captivated and forgot his main purpose in the council. The young prince immediately proposed his intentions to the Muslim Datu who was only too willing to accept his land in marriage as he was not very keen about going to war against a neighbor.
When the Bukidnon chieftain heard about his son proposing marriage to the daughter of his enemy. His warriors bid goodbye and left to live near the hills of Lumbia vowing never return to his former settlement which he now call “Kagayha-an” (or in Bukidnon, a place of shame).
Going through these various tales, I realized how rich the imaginations of Kagay-anons can be. Each one of us may probably have our own version of various myths and legends about Cagayan de Oro.

But whether they have a hint of truth or nothing at all, the important thing is, through these tales, we share our patronage and interest to our own city.

Another First in American History

Ansley Wilcox House at Buffalo, New York, 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt took oath as United States president using the Koran. After more than a decade, the Muslim Bible once sworn by the president will be used once again for a ceremonial swearing-in.

News and publications now put the limelight to Washington Congressman-elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress will take oath on January 5, 2007 using the Koran sworn by Roosevelt. After the terror 9/11 brought the country, Ellison indeed broke political boundaries at this critical time in the country.

An American lawyer and politician, Ellison, 42, was also the first African American to be elected to the House from Minnesota. He’s been also actively involved in the national advocacy for Muslims in the United States.

Although some critics believe that for swearing in, only a Bible should be used, the ceremony will prove that “religious differences are nothing to be afraid of.”
